HART — An 18-year-old Ada man has been charged in Oceana County’s 79th District Court with a felony count of operating an ORV (off-road vehicle) while intoxicated causing death in connection to a fatal crash that occurred over the weekend.
Luke William Kooistra, 17 of Ada was pronounced dead at the scene following a side-by-side rollover crash Sunday, Aug. 23, at 12:39 a.m. on private property in the 300 block of North 28th Avenue in Golden Township, according to the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office. Preliminary investigation indicates that there were six people in the ORV.
“When deputies and emergency responders arrived, they learned that a Honda Pioneer 1000 side-by-side rolled over, severely injuring a 17-year-old passenger,” states a press release issued by Undersheriff Ryan Schiller. “Deputies, fire and EMS personnel attempted resuscitative efforts but were unsuccessful. AeroMed was auto-launched to the scene but was later disregarded. The other occupants did not sustain any injuries requiring immediate medical attention.
Peterson posted 10 percent of a $2,500 bond, according to court records. He is scheduled to appear for a preliminary exam, Sept. 8, at 1 p.m.
