GOLDEN TOWNSHIP — A 17-year-old Ada, Mich. boy died in an ORV crash early Sunday morning, Aug. 23, and the ORV driver was arrested for operating while intoxicated causing death, according to the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office.
Luke William Kooistra was pronounced dead at the scene.
“At approximately 12:39 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 23, 2026, Mason-Oceana 911 received a report of a side-by-side rollover accident in Golden Township,” states a press release issued by Oceana County Undersheriff Ryan Schiller.
“When deputies and emergency responders arrived, they learned that a Honda Pioneer 1000 side-by-side rolled over, severely injuring a 17-year-old passenger. The preliminary investigation indicates that there were six individuals in the side-by-side ORV, and the accident occurred on private property. Deputies, fire and EMS personnel attempted resuscitative efforts but were unsuccessful. AeroMed was auto-launched to the scene but was later disregarded. The other occupants did not sustain any injuries requiring immediate medical attention.
“The operator of the ORV, an 18-year-old man from Ada Mich., was arrested for operating while intoxicated causing death and lodged in the Oceana County Jail. The crash remains under investigation.”
The Hart Area Fire Department and Life EMS assisted OCSO at the scene, which was in the 300 block of North 28th Avenue.
