PENTWATER — A 27-year-old Pentwater man faces one felony count of assault with intent to murder and two felony counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder for allegedly stabbing his parents at their Fifth Street home Friday afternoon, April 24.

Clayton Lane Devries is lodged in the Oceana County Jail on $250,000/cash/surety bond. Devries stabbed his 69-year-old father in the throat, said Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast, and he stabbed his 66-year-old mother in the “upper chest area.” They had recently returned to their Pentwater home from Florida, he said.
The assault in the small tourist village resulted in a “significant police presence” in the area of Fifth and Hancock streets Friday afternoon.
The victims were transported by Life EMS to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital. The father was airlifted for further treatment at a Grand Rapids hospital. A status on their conditions was not immediately available.
Assault with intent to murder is punishable by up to life in prison, and assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
Devries is scheduled to appear in Oceana County’s 79th District Court for a preliminary exam May 12 at 1 p.m.
