Nevada Draper, a 12th grade homeschooled student from Hesperia, won the 2025 Congressional Art Competition’s grand prize with her painting, “One Generation Away.”
Nevada was announced as the winner of the competition last week at a reception at the Green Charter Township Hall.
Her artwork will be on display at the United States Capitol for the next year where it will be viewed by visitors from around the world.
“I congratulate Nevada on this wonderful accomplishment,” said Congressman John Moolenaar, who represents the Second Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. “Her artwork will represent our district well as it is displayed in the U.S. Capitol this year. Thank you to every student from our district who participated in this year’s Congressional Art Competition. I am grateful to see so many talented students showcase their skills and present exceptional artwork.”

Nevada was the regional winner of the competition in 2023.
Charlotte Torrez of Ludington High School and Gracie Knudsen of Newaygo High School are regional winners in this year’s art competition. Charlotte’s Acrylic painting titled “Animals of Michigan” and Gracie’s painting titled “Clouds over Lake Michigan” will be on display at Congressman Moolenaar’s offices in Clare and Caledonia.
The Congressional Art Competition takes place annually in districts across the country.
