HESPERIA — Nevada Draper, 15, of Hesperia was named the regional winner in the 2023 Congressional Art Competition for Michigan’s Second Congressional District.
Her pencil drawing of her pony, Sugar, is on display in Congressman John Moolenaar’s office for the next year.
“It’s fun — it’s exciting,” she said of winning the regional honor.
Ludington High School junior Julia Reed won the competition, and Nevada and Kadence Keegstra of Ludington High School were regional winners.
Nevada, who is home schooled, is a sophomore. Her love for art and animals sparked her starting a business, called Pooch Paintings. She creates custom portraits of dogs. For more information about her business, email poochpaintings@mail.com.
Nevada, the daughter of Jim and Carrie Draper, turns 16 Tuesday, May 9. Happy Birthday!
