NEWAYGO — Curious about the Indigenous principles of an honorable harvest? Join Wild Ones West Michigan Shore-to-Prairie Saturday, Oct. 17, from 10 a.m. to noon. at the Newaygo Congregational United Church of Christ for a two-part program focusing on sustainable harvesting—a mindset that helps to build and guide the reciprocal relationship between the people and the land.
Saturday’s program features University of Michigan’s Connie Crancer, who will review the latest science, best practices, and protocols for sustainably harvesting native spices, seeds, and plants.
Jen Burfield and Marsha Reeves will draw from their Indigenous knowledge and experience with the honorable harvest principle to share information about harvestable plant types in the area, medicinal uses of these plants, principles of honorable harvest, reflections and stories.
Participants will be given an opportunity at the end of the program to enter a lottery for a chance to participate in a private honorable harvest led by an Indigenous teacher and healer on Oct. 24.
