PENTWATER — A man’s body was recovered that was found inside a car submerged in Pentwater Lake Wednesday morning, Sept. 16.
The man had been reported missing in Grand Haven, said Pentwater Police Chief Laude Hartrum. Foul play is not suspected, said the chief.
The vehicle was discovered by kayakers at the Municipal Boat Launch just before 9 a.m.
Upon Pentwater police officers’ arrival, a diver was immediately deployed to survey the vehicle, said Chief Hartrum, and discovered that the vehicle was locked.
“Officers also received information from Oceana County Sheriff’s Office that they had received information that there was a missing vehicle from the Grand Haven Public Safety. The vehicle was described as a 2011 red Jeep Compass. This vehicle matched the vehicle survived by divers.
“Pentwater police were assisted by the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team, detectives, and Pentwater Fire Department UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle/drone) unit. Working together, the vehicle was recovered from Pentwater Lake. A search of the vehicle discovered one deceased male subject. The identity of the subject is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
“A search of Flock cameras revealed that the vehicle was in Oceana County during the early morning hours of Sept. 15, 2026 and was last seen at approximately 3:33 a.m.
“This is yet another instance where the Flock cameras have assisted us in an investigation” said Chief Hartrum. “The Flock cameras provided valuable information during this investigation. The incident remains under investigation at this time pending an autopsy.”
