HART – The City of Hart will host a community night at the Hart Historic District, 570 Lincoln St., Monday, Sept. 28, to provide an update on the property, discuss plans for its future, and invite community members to become involved.
An open house with tours and networking will take place from 5-5:30 p.m., followed by a community update from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
The historic district is a city-owned village of historic buildings that includes a community center, museum spaces, and a variety of historic collections managed by the Hart Historic Preservation Group, a non-profit organization.
The city is currently seeking proposals from planning/engineering firms to help the community develop a new vision for the site. The planning process will consider the condition and use of the buildings, accessibility, safety, collections, programming, funding and long-term sustainability.
“For the past year, the Hart Economic & Redevelopment Team Board has temporarily served as the organization’s board of directors to help maintain operations, while the city considered a new path forward,” states a press release from the city. “We are now seeking community members interested in helping form a new Hart Historic Preservation Group Board of Directors and participating in the district’s next chapter.
“Residents, local families, history enthusiasts, volunteers, and anyone interested in the future of the property are encouraged to attend.
“Opportunities are available for those interested in board service, historic preservation, collections, events, fundraising, volunteer coordination, and community programming.”
“Community involvement will be essential as we determine what the historic district can become,” said City Manager Nichole Kleiner. “We want to preserve Hart’s history while creating a site that is safe, welcoming, and sustainable for future generations.”
Guided access during the open house will be limited to designated areas of the district.
