HART — The Hart Economic and Redevelopment Team (HEART) has announced a brand-new interactive addition to this year’s Annual Fall ArtWalk: 600 Pieces. One Hart., a community mosaic mural that will give residents and visitors the opportunity to help create a permanent piece of public art in downtown Hart.
Fall ArtWalk will take place Saturday, Oct. 3, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in downtown Hart, with the community mosaic activity centered at Hart Commons.
“This year, the community mosaic mural will take the place of the traditional HartPrize competition as the featured community art experience during Fall ArtWalk,” states a press release from the city. “While HartPrize has provided a fun way to showcase creativity in years past, HEART wanted to try something a little different this year—an art project that gives people of all ages and artistic abilities the chance to participate and create something together. HartPrize is not going away permanently, and HEART looks forward to bringing the competition back in future years.”
“I am so excited to bring this project to ArtWalk and really have something that the entire community can say they were a part of,” said Hart Economic and Community Development Coordinator Lindsay Brown. “The best part is that you don’t have to consider yourself an artist to participate. Every tile will be unique, but when all 600 pieces come together, they will create something that represents our community and will be part of downtown Hart for years to come.”
The community mural will be made up of 600 individual 5-by-5-inch tiles, available for participants to purchase and paint for just $5 each. Participants may purchase one tile or multiple tiles.
No artistic experience is required. Each tile will come with its own set of paint, brushes, instructions and sample images to help participants create their piece.
Tables will be set up throughout Hart Commons, where participants can sit down and paint their tiles while enjoying live music and everything happening during Fall ArtWalk.
Participants will know how to paint their individual tiles, but they won’t know what the completed mural will look like. Once all 600 tiles are painted and assembled, they will come together to reveal one large image.
For now, HEART is keeping that image a secret, with the final mural design to be released closer to Fall ArtWalk.
Once completed, the community-created mural will be permanently displayed in the Downtown Hart Pocket Park, creating a lasting piece of public art for residents and visitors to enjoy year-round.
At its heart, the project is about community unity and the idea behind the mural itself—600 individual pieces coming together to create something bigger.
The event will also feature the return of free kids craft activities, introduced last year, along with featured artists showcasing their work at businesses throughout downtown.
Oceana Bike & Boat will host the third annual, “The Ride HOME,” in conjunction with the Fall ArtWalk festivities.
The Ride HOME gives cyclists another way to get out, enjoy the community and support the continued development of local recreational opportunities. A portion of the proceeds from the ride will be contributed to the endowment fund for the Pentwater-Hart Trail, helping support the future of the regional trail connection.
“With The Ride HOME, Fall ArtWalk, featured artists, live music, kids activities and the community mosaic all taking place, Oct. 3 is shaping up to be a full day of art, recreation and community in downtown Hart.”
