NEWFIELD TOWNSHIP — After receiving several complaints about a pontoon boat operating after dark without navigational lights, the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office Marine Division initiated a stop on McLaren Lake Friday, Aug. 21, at 9:21 p.m., and the boater fled from the marine deputies, said Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast.
“The operator of the vessel refused to stop and identify,” said Sheriff Mast. “He proceeded to his residence where he docked his boat and attempted to flee on foot. He was stopped and subsequently investigated and placed under arrest.”
The 56-year-old man, who has a Coopersville address, is charged with fleeing a marine patrol officer. He was lodged in the Oceana County Jail.
“We had received several complaints last season and again this season that there was operation of this particular boat with no lights.”
