HART — Caitlyn Ramos is the new ninth and 10th grade English language arts teacher at Hart High School.

A 2021 Hesperia High School graduate, Ramos is excited to board the Pirate ship.

After high school, she attended Muskegon Community College and obtained an associate’s degree in science and arts in one year’s time. Then, she transferred to Ferris State University, where she graduated with honors with a bachelor’s degree in secondary English education.

“This is going to be my first time teaching in my own classroom. I’m excited and a little nervous.”

Ramos did her student teaching at Mason County Central Middle School at the sixth grade level.

“It’s a big jump going from sixth grade to high school,” said the Ludington resident.

Ramos has ties to Hart. Her husband, Jovan, attended Hart High School for a year, and she attends church at Hart Christian Fellowship.

“Hart was always the school that we were scared to play against in sports—look at that,” she said as she pointed to the school’s trophy case filled with championship awards.

She played softball, volleyball and basketball for the Panthers.

“Everyone here is amazing.” She said that she felt very comfortable during her interview for the job. “It just felt right.”

An animal lover, she originally wanted to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. When she got her ears pierced during her sophomore year in high school, she passed out and soon realized that being a vet might not be the best career path for her.

A passion for reading and an inspirational educator, Hesperia High School English teacher Theresa Dean-Rumsey, steered her toward a career in English literature.

“I was a TA (teacher’s assistant) in the middle school and a TA in her class.” Ramos soon found out how much she enjoyed teaching. “I loved grading the essays. I love analytical writing and I love reading.

“I’m really excited about being here, and I think I will have a good impact.”
