Two men arrested for trying to kill deer out of season

GRANT TOWNSHIP — A 46-year-old Shelby man and a 28-year-old Shelby man were arrested for attempting to harvest a deer out of season and trespassing in the 6900 block of South 104th Avenue Friday, July 3, around 9:15 p.m., said Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast.

The 46-year-old man was also charged with operating while intoxicated.

“They were bearing a crossbow, trying to take a deer,” said Sheriff Mast.

They were lodged in the Oceana County Jail.

Tuesday, June 30, 2026:

  • 4:33 p.m., a 56-year-old White Cloud man was arrested for operating while intoxicated and open intoxicants, Skeels Road near 200th Avenue, Greenwood Township. He was lodged in the Oceana County Jail.

Friday, July 3, 2026:

  • 11:22 p.m., a 19-year-old Allendale man was arrested for operating while intoxicated, open intoxicants and improper license plate, Fox Road near 40th Avenue, Golden Township. He was lodged in the Oceana County Jail.

Saturday, July 4, 2026:

  • 2:25 a.m., road rage that reportedly began on US 31 involving a beer can being thrown out of a car window led to a property damage crash on 64th Avenue near Stone Road, Benona Township. 
  • 2:25 p.m., a methamphetamine possession charge is pending lab analysis of the substance against a 43-year-old Shelby woman, Hazel Road near 34th Avenue, Golden Township.
  • 1:30 p.m., malicious destruction of property, a 2009 Dodge Charger was keyed, 1900 block of White Birch Drive, Golden Township.

Sunday, July 5, 2026:

  • 12:34 p.m., a 46-year-old homeless woman was arrested on a warrant, and a 42-year-old Rothbury man was arrested for driving while license suspended, McKinley Road near 100th Avenue, Grant Township. A methamphetamine possession charge is pending lab analysis of the substance against both suspects. They were lodged in the Oceana County Jail.
  • 9:29 p.m., a 30-year-old Montague man was arrested for third-offense operating while intoxicated and second-offense driving while license suspended, Garfield Road near 124th Avenue, Ferry Township. He was lodged in the Oceana County Jail.
