Deputies respond to 5 injury crashes at the dunes over the weekend

GOLDEN TOWNSHIP — Oceana County sheriff’s deputies responded to five crashes that caused injuries at the Silver Lake Sand Dunes over the weekend.

A 27-year-old Richland, Mich. man suffered a back injury when he was driving a 1999 Jeep Cherokee Friday, June 26, at 12:15 p.m. The man “crested a dune and lost control of his vehicle, which overturned, landing on its roof,” states the OCSO accident report. He was transported by Life EMS to Trinity Health Hospital in Muskegon for a back injury. The Jeep was towed from the scene.

A 19-year-old Britton, Mich. man was injured Saturday, June 27, just before 1 p.m. on a 2025 Honda Rancher. “He was southbound on the Silver Lake Sand Dunes, when he lost control of his ATV and fell from the vehicle,” the report states. He was transported by Life EMS to Trinity Health Hospital in Shelby for a possible head injury.

A 20-year-old Trenton, Mo. man was injured Saturday at 4:30 p.m. while operating a 2025 KTM 25. The man was southbound on the dunes, when he lost control of the vehicle, which overturned, the report states. He was transported by Life EMS to Trinity Health Hospital in Shelby for a shoulder injury. 

A 53-year-old Swartz Creek, Mich. woman, who was a passenger on a 2022 Polaris RZR, was injured in a dune crash Sunday, June 28, at 4:45 p.m. She was riding with a 28-year-old Flint, Mich. man who was westbound on the dunes when he lost control of the vehicle, which overturned, landing on its side and entrapping the passenger. Michigan DNR rangers freed the woman who was transported by Life EMS to Trinity Health Hospital in Muskegon for a leg injury. 

An 18-year-old Plainwell, Mich. man was operating a 2004 Honda TRX450R on a “steep sloped” dune Sunday around 6 p.m. His left leg was pinched between a moving part on his ORV and caused a laceration to his leg, states the report. He sought treatment at Trinity Health Hospital in Shelby.
