SHELBY TOWNSHIP — A 65,000-square-foot indoor recreation and community facility opened this week in the Shelby Township Community Park and is expected to become a premier destination for sports, fitness, and family entertainment.
KemperSports Venues, based in Northbrook, Ill., is a leading provider of sports, recreation, and hospitality management experience services, announced it was selected to manage and operate the new Tiger Athletic & Community Center, a state-of-the-art indoor recreation facility.
“Shelby Township is excited to be able to provide a world class sports and community facility to the residents of Oceana County and beyond,” said Shelby Township Supervisor Richard Raffaelli. “KemperSports emerged as the leader during the bid process, and Shelby Township is thrilled to have them as our partner at the TACC. The group will inevitably exceed all expectations.”

The Tiger Athletic & Community Center is located at 4101 Buchanan Rd. in the Shelby Township Community Park. The two-level complex is designed and built by Shelby Township to “meet a growing regional need for year-round indoor athletic, recreation, and community gathering space,” states a press release from KemperSports. “The facility will provide athletes, families, and residents with access to sports, fitness, entertainment, and special event opportunities close to home, particularly during Michigan’s winter months.”
“Through the partnership, KemperSports Venues will leverage its industry-leading expertise across facility operations, staff management, membership development, facility rentals, event booking, league and tournament operations, guest experience, marketing, and community partnerships to support the successful launch and long-term operation of Tiger Athletic & Community Center.”

“We are excited to partner with the Tiger Athletic & Community Center team and help bring this exceptional facility to life,” said KemperSports Executive Vice President Andrew Fleming. “The center has been designed to meet the needs of athletes and families of all ages while creating a vibrant community gathering space. The center “features a diverse mix of athletic, fitness, and entertainment amenities,” including:
- An indoor walking track;
- Two basketball courts that can be converted into four volleyball courts or six pickleball courts;
- An indoor turf field designed for soccer, lacrosse, field hockey, and other sports;
- A fitness center;
- A rock climbing wall;
- An indoor archery simulator;
- A golf simulator;
- Batting tunnels;
- An arcade;
- A children’s playscape.
“The versatile design will allow the facility to host youth and adult sports leagues, tournaments, camps, clinics, fitness programming, special events, facility rentals, and community gatherings throughout the year.”

Hours of operation during the opening week are Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Wednesday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. They are subject to change. Visitors can check out the facility and learn about memberships.
