PENTWATER — A summer tradition dating back nearly eight decades returns to the Pentwater Village Green on Thursday, June 25, when the Pentwater Civic Band opens its 79th season with a free community concert.
The weekly concerts will be held every Thursday from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. through August on the Village Green. Audience members are encouraged to bring a lawn chair and enjoy an evening of marches, polkas, oldies and other favorites in one of Pentwater’s most recognizable settings.
The Pentwater Civic Band traces its roots to 1947, when a group of local musicians organized a band to perform summer concerts in the park. The ensemble has continued the tradition ever since, becoming one of Pentwater’s longest-running community organizations.
Community band concerts were once a common feature of small-town America, and the Pentwater Civic Band remains a living example of that tradition. The group welcomes both local and visiting musicians, ranging from students to longtime performers. Some members have played with the band for decades, while others participate only occasionally during the summer season.
The concerts are known for their relaxed atmosphere and audience participation. Children often dance on the Village Green during performances, and the band’s repertoire includes a mix of marches, show tunes, patriotic selections and old-time favorites.
Musicians of all skill levels are invited to join the band this summer.
