GOLDEN TOWNSHIP — The Oceana County Sheriff’s Office responded to three separate injury crashes at the Silver Lake Sand Dunes over the weekend.
The first crash occurred Friday, June 12, around 3:30 p.m. A 58-year-old Buffalo Grove, Ill. man was transported by Life EMS to Trinity Health Shelby Hospital for a back injury, according to an OCSO accident report.
As the man “crested a dune” in a 2019 Polaris RZR, “the undercarriage of his vehicle bottomed out.”
The second crash occurred Saturday, June 13, at about 11:30 a.m. A 25-year-old Coloma, Mich. man was operating a 2022 Polaris RZR with two passengers — a 26-year-old man and a 29-year-old man, both of whom are also from Coloma, according to the OCSO accident report.
“He crested a dune; lost control of the vehicle; and the vehicle overturned,” states the report. The driver sustained a head injury; refused to be transported by EMS; but self transported to Lakeshore (Trinity Health Shelby Hospital) ER.”
The front seat passenger — the 26-year-old man — sustained a back injury and was transported by Life EMS Trinity Health Shelby Hospital. The back seat passenger sustained a right index finger laceration and self-transported to Trinity Health Shelby Hospital ER. The RZR was towed from the scene.
The third dune crash handled by OCSO over the weekend occurred Saturday, June 13, at 4 p.m.
A 23-year-old Dearborn, Mich. woman operating a 2023 Arctic Cat Alterra “lost control of the ORV, which overturned, causing her to fall from the vehicle,” states the report. She was transported to Muskegon by Life EMS for a possible back injury, the report states.
