The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Mason and Oceana counties until 6:45 p.m. today.
At 5:49 p.m., severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 20 miles northwest of Ludington State Park to 32 miles southwest of Montague, moving east at 50 mph.
The storms are capable of producing wind gusts up to 60 mph and penny-sized hail, according to radar indications from the National Weather Service.
Forecasters warn the storms could cause damage to roofs, siding and trees.
Communities in Mason and Oceana counties that may be impacted include Ludington, Scottville, Pentwater, Hart, Shelby, Hesperia, Fountain, Free Soil, Hamlin Lake and Mears.
Residents are advised to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building for protection.
The warning remains in effect until 6:45 p.m.

• Maximum expected wind gusts: 60 mph
