Alcohol suspected in motorcycle crash

June 10, 2026

CRYSTAL TOWNSHIP — A 61-year-old Kalamazoo man was transported by Life EMS to Trinity Health Muskegon Hospital in Muskegon following a motorcycle crash on Washington Road and 120th Avenue near the Mason County line Thursday, June 4, around 4:40 p.m., according to an Oceana County Sheriff’s Office accident report.

Police believe alcohol was a factor in the crash. The man, who was riding a 2017 Harley Davidson, was not wearing a helmet, the report states.

He was riding northbound on 120th Avenue along with a friend on separate motorcycles. He “became separated from the friend due to speed.” As he attempted to traverse the curved roadway from North 120th Avenue to East Washington Road, he “carried too much speed and hit the soft shoulder of the roadway,” the report states. He attempted to get the bike back onto the roadway, but was unable to before losing control and hitting a ditch. The motorcycle rolled and ejected the man.

He was transported to the hospital with severe injuries, states the report. “Upon speaking with EMS, it was reported that they could smell an odor of intoxicants emanating” from the man. Due to his severe injuries, no alcohol testing was performed.
