CRYSTAL TOWNSHIP — A fire destroyed a double-wide modular home at 2462 E. Jackson Rd. early Sunday morning, June 7.
Firefighters from Crystal Township, Hart and Walkerville departments were initially dispatched to the scene shortly before midnight Saturday night and battled the fire into the early morning hours Sunday. Pentwater and Ferry Township fire departments were called about an hour later due to the need for additional manpower and water, said Al Purdy, who is the fire chief for both Crystal Township and Walkerville departments.
Firefighters remained on scene for about three hours, said Purdy.
No one was injured, he said. When the call was initially dispatched, it was reported that pets were still inside the house. Purdy did not know if they made it out.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. When firefighters arrived, they found the fire in a crawl space above the ceiling, said Purdy.
