SHELBY — Shelby State Bank has promoted a longtime employee and added two new members to its management team as part of its ongoing focus on growth, leadership development and operational excellence.

Kelly O’Neill has been promoted to assistant vice president while continuing in her role as ACH process manager and electronic services officer. O’Neill has been with Shelby State Bank for 27 years and has held a variety of positions within the organization. She is an Accredited ACH Professional, Accredited Payments Risk Professional and Accredited Faster Payments Professional.

“Kelly has made a tremendous impact on our organization throughout her tenure,” President and CEO Mishelle Comstock said. “Her promotion recognizes the expertise she brings to our team. At the same time, we are excited to welcome Melissa and Jonah, whose experience, perspective, and skill sets will help us continue to grow, serve our customers well, and strengthen our organization for the future.”

O’Neill played a key leadership role in its 2024 core conversion project and has been instrumental in advancing the bank’s electronic services capabilities, Comstock said.

Melissa Wells

The bank also announced the hiring of Melissa Wells as vice president, retail and business strategy officer and Community Reinvestment Act officer. Wells brings more than 20 years of banking experience, including branch leadership roles and experience guiding staff through mergers, mentoring employees and building collaborative teams.

In her new position, Wells will focus on strengthening the bank’s retail strategy, supporting business development efforts and advancing community engagement initiatives.

Jonah Kelley

Jonah Kelley has joined the bank as information technology director. Kelley holds a bachelor’s degree in computer information technology from Ferris State University and has earned multiple certifications related to network infrastructure and security.

Comstock said Kelley’s experience in developing and maintaining secure and compliant information technology environments will help support innovation and strengthen security across the organization.

Shelby State Bank was established in 1931 and operates nine branches in western Michigan, from Fruitport to Ludington, offering consumer and business banking services.
