HART — A 39-year-old Hesperia man with an extensive criminal history was sentenced to a prison term of 14 months to five years for a conviction of larceny $1,000-$20,000 in Oceana County’s 51st Circuit Court Monday, June 1.
Jason Alan Ennis pleaded guilty to the charge Feb. 23, 2026, according to court records.
“Jason Ennis broke into a utility trailer at a work site and stole a log splitter and a lot of tools,” said Oceana County Prosecuting Attorney Joseph Bizon. The total value of stolen items is estimated at over $15,940, said Prosecutor Bizon.
The crime occurred Aug. 5, 2025 in Otto Township.
Judge Susan K. Sniegowski gave Ennis credit for 39 days served in jail.
Ennis is not new to the prison system. He was sentenced to one year and seven months to 10 years for a two-count felony conviction of methamphetamine possession in Muskegon County, March 9, 2023, according to Michigan Department of Corrections records. He was sentenced to one year and three months to 10 years, Oct. 16, 2017, for a felony conviction of operating/maintaining a lab in Newaygo County. He has other priors of third-degree child abuse in 2016 and possession of methamphetamine in 2007 in Oceana County and possession of a narcotic or cocaine in 2012 in Newaygo County.
He pleaded no contest to possession of burglary tools, Feb. 10, 2025, in Oceana County and was sentenced to one year in jail. He was also convicted of larceny $1,000-$20,000 for stealing a catalytic converter, Aug. 1, 2022, in Oceana County and was sentenced, Oct. 10, 2022, to nine months in jail.
He has multiple convictions of driving while license suspended in Oceana County’s 79th District Court as well as a conviction of domestic violence, court records state.
“My office sends out information for victims which includes an opportunity to request restitution,” said Bizon of Ennis’ most recent criminal case. “My office never received a request. The probation department also sends out a similar notice to victims, and the pre-sentence investigation report indicated no request had been received. Insurance companies can subrogate — stand in on that claim — and no subrogation appears in my file.”
