GOLDEN TOWNSHIP — Hart and Shelby-Benona fire departments responded to a reported structure fire on North June Drive near Wildridge Road Tuesday, June 2, at 8:30 a.m.
“It was a careless cooking incident,” said Hart Area Fire Department Public Information Officer Troy Maloney, who is the Oceana County emergency manager. A fire started in the microwave, causing the house to fill up with smoke.
“There was no damage to the structure — it just smoked it out,” said Maloney.
Pentwater Fire Department was initially dispatched, but cancelled due to the minor nature of the call. It is standard protocol in Oceana County that three departments are called to a reported structure fire.
Two occupants of the single-story home evacuated. There were no injuries.
