ELBRIDGE TOWNSHIP — The Oceana County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of brass plaques stolen from military veterans’ graves at the Elbridge Township Cemetery over Memorial Day weekend, said Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast.

The thefts and property damage were reported to the sheriff’s office Saturday, May 23, around noon. “Several headstones had been damaged,” said Sheriff Mast. “We’re very suspicious that the plaques were stolen to be melted down for scrap.”
A total amount of plaques that were stolen was not immediately available.
If anyone has any information about the case, they should contact the sheriff’s office at (231) 873-2121. Charges of malicious destruction of property and larceny would be pursued against the suspect or suspects involved.
The cemetery is located at the corner of East Polk Road and 136th Avenue.
