HART — Attorneys representing a 27-year-old mother and her 34-year-old boyfriend charged with multiple counts of child abuse in connection to the death of her son, 7-month-old Maverick Lyle Bouck, presented motions in Oceana County’s 51st Circuit Court Monday, May 11.

Attorney Timothy Hayes represents Elizabeth LynnLanor Hogan, and attorney Ryan Good represents Devin Austin Brown-Fowler. Both attorneys filed motions to “quash” or suppress evidence, said Oceana County Prosecuting Attorney Joseph Bizon.

The motion filed for Brown-Fowler was denied by Judge Susan K. Sniegowski, said Bizon, and the motion for Hogan will be reviewed by the judge.

“She needs to review transcripts and some case law,” said Bizon, and then she will issue a written opinion. “The two defendants have distinctly different cases.”

Hogan and Brown-Fowler, who both have the same Hartford, Mich. address, are each charged with one count of second-degree child abuse, third-degree child abuse and fourth-degree child abuse. They both remain lodged in the Oceana County Jail. Brown-Fowler’s bond is set at $50,000 cash/surety, and Hogan’s is $25,000/cash/surety.

The Oceana County’s Sheriff’s Office investigated the baby boy’s death that occurred Sunday evening, May 4, 2025 in the 9000 block of S. 192nd Avenue in Greenwood Township, said Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast.

“He had three skull fractures, three broken ribs and a brain bleed — he passed from the brain bleed,” said Aimee Camp, who was Maverick’s grandmother and Elizabeth Hogan’s mother.

The maximum penalty for second-degree child abuse is 10 years in prison; third-degree is two years in prison; and fourth-degree child abuse is a misdemeanor that carries a one-year maximum, said Prosecutor Bizon.

When asked why the couple are not being charged with murder or manslaughter, Bizon said, “Murder and manslaughter charges include an element of intent related to desired outcomes. The evidence does not support such a conclusion.”
