CUSTER — The Shelby Tigers captured the softball tournament championship Saturday with a pair of decisive victories, defeating Onekema 10-1 before topping Mason County Eastern 13-4 in the championship game.
Shelby opened the day with a strong performance against Onekema behind the pitching of Leighton Belasco. Belasco earned the win after allowing just three hits while striking out five and walking one.
Trevor Weiss and Cam Smith paced the Tigers offensively with two hits apiece. Evan Waller, Michael Regeczi and Parker Weirich each contributed RBI singles in the victory.
In the championship game against Mason County Eastern, Shelby used a balanced effort on the mound and at the plate to secure the title. Eli Kelley and Michael Regeczi each pitched three innings in the win.
Dayday Garcia, Chase Simon and Declan Waller led the Tigers offensively with two hits each. Carson Stark and Mathew Picon each added a single and drove in two runs.
Shelby, coached by Brian Wright, improved to 22-7 overall with the two victories.
