SHELBY — The Shelby Tigers stayed hot in West Michigan Conference Lake Division action Tuesday, sweeping Hart 9-0 and 17-4 behind dominant pitching performances and a combined 25-hit offensive outburst.
In the opener, Eli Kelley tossed a three-hit shutout while striking out 12 to lead the Tigers to the 9-0 victory.
Shelby’s offense was paced by Dayday Garcia, Trevor Weiss and Jaden Furman, who each collected two hits and drove in two runs. Evan Waller and Cam Smith also added two hits apiece for the Tigers.
Shelby erupted offensively in the nightcap, pounding out 16 hits in a 17-4 win.
After entering in relief during the first inning, Leighton Belasco shut down the Pirates the rest of the way. Belasco earned the win by allowing just one run on two hits over six innings while striking out 12 and walking none.
Garcia led the Tigers at the plate with three hits, including a solo home run in the first inning. Waller, Chase Simon, Smith and Furman each added two hits, while Kelley drove in four runs.
Shelby, coached by Brian Wright, improved to 19-6 overall and 5-1 in conference play.
