Hart track teams close out historic home track with victories

HART — The Hart boys and girls track teams celebrated the final varsity meet on the school’s 41-year-old home track Tuesday night with a series of strong performances and conference victories.

The Hart girls defeated Ravenna 98-36, North Muskegon 96-28 and Holton 112-24 in the final regular-season home meet before heading to Friday’s West Michigan Conference Rivers Division championships at Muskegon Community College.

Leading the Pirates girls with three first-place finishes each were Addison Hain, Ellie Gross, Natalie Rosema and Emery Velat.

Hain won the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash while also helping Hart capture the 4×100 relay. Gross claimed victories in the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles and also ran on the winning 4×100 relay team.

Rosema won the 1,600-meter run and contributed to victories in both the 4×100 and 4×400 relays, while Velat helped Hart take first in the 4×200, 4×800 and 4×400 relays.

Shelbie Choponis earned wins in both the shot put and discus, while Lauren Hopkins won the pole vault and helped the Pirates win the 4×200 relay. Alaina Schaner added victories in the 3,200-meter run and the 4×800 relay.

Also contributing to first-place relay finishes were Kenai Kokx and Abigail Salazar in the 4×800, Lilianna Camacho and Aurora Virtanen in the 4×200, Joselyn Flores in the 4×100 and Emma Miller and Martina Saenz in the 4×400.

The Hart boys remained undefeated in the Rivers Conference with victories over North Muskegon and Ravenna.

Chase Lorenz had a standout performance for the Pirates, winning the 100, 200, 4×100 relay and 4×200 relay. Lorenz also broke his own school record in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.96 seconds.

Joining Lorenz on the winning relay teams were Elon Babbin, Bryce VanderKodde, Julian Tejada and Jaxson Oomen.

Silas Ackley won the 3,200-meter run, Luke VanderWilk captured victories in the 110 hurdles and high jump, and Pablo Ortega won the 300 hurdles with a personal-record time of 43.08 seconds.

Caleb Ackley added a victory in the shot put with a personal-record throw of 46 feet, 4 inches.

Hart also won the 4×400 relay behind the team of Babbin, Jack Slotman, Grant Ackley and VanderWilk.

The Pirates will compete Friday at Mason County Central at the West Michigan Conference Rivers Division championships.
