CUSTER — Pentwater’s track and field teams turned in a balanced effort Thursday at the West Michigan D Conference Championships at Mason County Eastern, with both the boys and girls squads finishing sixth overall.
The Falcons produced five All-Conference performances, 14 total placings and 10 personal bests on the night, according to coach Erika Fatura.
Senior Logan Fatura led the way, earning first-team All-Conference honors with a championship throw of 121 feet, 7 inches in the discus. He also added an honorable mention All-Conference finish in the shot put, placing third at 37-9.
Pentwater’s boys relay teams also secured honorable mention recognition with third-place finishes in both the 4×200-meter relay (1:44.77) and 4×100 relay (49.78). The relay teams included Logan Fatura, Jacobo Martin, Tyler Zimmer and Chase McGuire-Vangills. Zimmer added an individual third-place finish in the pole vault (9-6).
The Falcons recorded several fourth-place finishes, including McGuire-Vangills in the 110-meter hurdles (18.06) and Lauren Davis in the 100 hurdles (18.63). The girls 4×200 relay team of Davis, Karina Olivares, Lexi Smith and Emma Werkema-Grondsma placed fourth in 2:04.68, while the 4×100 team of Davis, Olivares, Smith and Lila Merrill finished fourth in 57.36. Smith also took fourth in the high jump (4-6).
Jacobo Martin tied for fifth in the high jump at 5-4, a personal best. Bailey Case placed sixth in both the 1,600 run (6:25.02) and 3,200 run (14:05.63), while Davis added a sixth-place finish in the 300 hurdles (56.12).
Pentwater recorded multiple personal bests across the meet, including efforts from Silas Jobbins (100 dash, 16.19), Rodney Grondsma (shot put, 26-3; discus, 73-10), Martin (200 dash, 26.40), Anthony Acosta (100 dash, 13.77), Merrill (200 dash, 30.30), Maggie Jorissen (1,600 run, 8:07.06; 800 run, 3:45.12) and Werkema-Grondsma (100 hurdles, 21.89).
“It’s hard to believe the regional meet is already next week,” Erika Fatura said. “The team will take a well-earned break from competition before returning Tuesday for the MOM meet. We’re looking forward to finishing the season strong.”
Pentwater next competes at the Mason-Oceana-Manistee meet before heading into regional competition.
