SHEPHERD — The Hart girls varsity track and field team turned in a strong showing Friday at the Shepherd BlueJay Invitational, placing fifth in the large school division despite cold conditions.
Joselyn Flores led the Pirates with a first-place finish in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 2 inches to claim the meet championship.
Addison Hain delivered a runner-up performance in the 100-meter dash, finishing second overall with a time of 13.01 seconds. Shelbie Choponis added to Hart’s top finishes by placing third in the discus with a throw of 108 feet, 10 inches.
The Pirates, coached by Calvin Ackley, will return to action Tuesday when they host North Muskegon. The meet will mark the final high school competition on Hart’s track, which opened in 1985.
Community members are encouraged to attend and support the team in its last home meet on the historic facility.
