SHEPHERD — The Hart boys track team turned in a strong showing Friday at the Shepherd Invitational, competing in the large school division despite cold weather conditions.
The Pirates had multiple athletes earn medals, awarded to the top six finishers in each event.
Mason Opalewski led the way with a first-place finish in the 1600-meter run. Grant Ackley also medaled in the 1600.
Trevor Vanderkodde claimed a division title in the 800, while teammate Jack Slotman also earned a medal in the event.
Pablo Ortega Rubio medaled in the 300 hurdles, and Jaxson Oomen added a medal in the 400. Silas Ackley earned a medal in the 3200.
In field events, Jagger Lenon and Grant Ackley both medaled in the pole vault.
Hart coach Ken Kimes said the meet was an unforgettable experience for the team despite the chilly conditions.
The Pirates will next compete in a home conference meet against Ravenna, Holton and North Muskegon.
