SHELBY — Shelby dominated possession from the start and never let up Wednesday, defeating Orchard View 7-0 in a boys varsity soccer match.
Playing in cold, rainy conditions, the Tigers controlled the pace throughout, generating consistent scoring chances despite occasional misfires on the slick surface. Shelby built a commanding 5-0 lead by halftime behind strong passing and offensive pressure.
Annie Stark opened the scoring with a volley from outside the box. Maria Hayes, Kylee Hanson, Kylie Brown and Olivia Rogers each added first-half goals as the Tigers pulled away early.
Shelby continued its offensive momentum in the second half, adding two more goals. Hayes and Brown each scored their second goals of the match to cap the scoring.
Shelby improved to 6-1-2 overall and 4-1-1 in conference play.
The Tigers return to action Thursday, hosting Holland Black River in a varsity-only contest.
