SHELBY — Shelby rode dominant pitching and timely hitting to a doubleheader sweep of Holton on Tuesday, winning 11-1 and 7-3.
In the opener, Dayday Garcia set the tone on the mound, allowing just two hits while striking out five and walking one. Shelby’s offense backed him early and often. Chase Simon led the way with two hits and three RBIs, while Neil Gowell delivered a two-run single. Jaden Furman added an RBI single in the win.
Shelby completed the sweep in Game 2 behind another strong pitching performance. Trevor Weiss earned the victory, giving up four hits and striking out 11.
At the plate, Leighton Belasco paced the Tigers with two hits and two RBIs. Eli Kelley contributed an RBI single, Cam Smith added an RBI double, and Simon drove in two more runs.
With the sweep, Shelby improved to 3-1 in league play and 16-3 overall.
