HOLTON — Hart’s girls and boys track and field teams turned in commanding performances Tuesday at the West Michigan Conference Rivers Division meet, each remaining unbeaten in conference competition.
The Hart girls defeated Shelby 91-32 and host Holton 99-21 behind a series of standout individual efforts.
Coach Calvin Ackley’s squad was led by Addison Hain and Ellie Gross, who each won four events. Hain placed first in the 100-meter dash, 200, 4×100 relay and 4×400 relay, while Gross won the 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles, 4×100 and 4×400 relays.
Natalie Rosema added three victories, winning the 1600 and running on the winning 4×100 and 4×400 relay teams.
Additional first-place finishes came from Joselyn Flores (4×100, 4×400), Lauren Hopkins (pole vault, 4×200), Alaina Schaner (800), Shelbie Choponis (discus), and the 4×200 relay team of Chloe Simpson, Lilianna Camacho and Abigail Salazar. The 4×800 relay team of Bryn Riley, Martina Saenz, Kenai Kokx and Emma Miller also took first.
The Hart boys team, coached by Ken Kimes, also dominated the meet, defeating Holton 118-18 and Shelby 118-14 despite windy conditions.
Pablo Ortega led the way with four victories, winning the hurdles along with the 4×100, 4×200 and 4×400 relays. Chase Lorenze won three events, taking first in the 100, 800 and 4×100 relay. Jaxson Oomen also earned three wins in the 400, 4×200 and 4×400.
Luke Vanderwilk added three first-place finishes in the high jump, 110 hurdles and 4×400 relay, while Bryce Vanderkodde won the 200, long jump and 4×200 relay.
Elon Babbin contributed two wins in the 4×100 and 4×200 relays. Other first-place finishers for Hart included Lyric Fielder (4×100), Donald Budrew (1600), Carson Ackley (3200), Jose Torres (shot put), Jagger Lenon (pole vault), and Jack Slotman (4×400). The 4×800 relay team of Trason Tucker, Carsten Udell, Juan Guardiola-Parra and Cole Slotman also placed first.
Both teams return to action Friday at the BlueJay Invite in Shepherd, where they will face tougher competition.
