MESICK — The Pentwater Falcons continued their strong spring with 11 place finishes and 17 personal records at the West Michigan D League Conference Jamboree No. 2 on Wednesday.
Pentwater’s throwers again set the tone. Logan Fatura led the field with a first-place finish in discus at 133 feet, 10 inches and added a runner-up showing in shot put (41-10.75). Teammates Silas Jobbins and Rodney Grondsma each recorded personal bests in both throwing events, with Grondsma highlighting the night by adding more than three feet to his shot put mark.
Chase McGuire-Vangills paced the Falcons on the track and in the field, earning second-place finishes in the 110-meter hurdles (18.10) and 300 hurdles (44.67), both personal bests. He also placed fifth in the long jump (17-9) and 200 dash (24.26), setting three PRs across four events.
Karina Olivarez turned in a notable effort in her first 800-meter run, clocking 3:02.94. She also contributed to the Falcons’ relay performances.
Pentwater’s 4×100 relay team of Lauren Davis, Lila Merrill, Olivarez and Emma Werkema-Grondsma placed fourth in 58.45. The 4×200 relay team of Merrill, Bailey Case, Olivarez and Werkema-Grondsma added a fifth-place finish (2:10.41).
Additional top-six finishes included Tyler Zimmer, who placed sixth in pole vault (8-0) and the 400 dash (1:02.23, PR), and Davis, who was fifth in the 200 dash (30.10).
Other personal records for Pentwater came from Anthony Acosta (100 dash, 14.03), Grondsma (shot put 25-8.25; discus 68-2), Jobbins (shot put 25-1.25; discus 58-2), Zimmer (100 dash, 13.59), Jacobo Martin (long jump 14-0.5; 100 dash 13.43; 200 dash 27.96), Case (100 dash, 15.59), Merrill (100 dash, 14.69), Olivarez (800 run, 3:02.94) and Werkema-Grondsma (long jump, 12-10.25).
Pentwater coach Erika Fatura said the team continues to show steady improvement and competitive consistency.
The Falcons will look to build on the momentum in upcoming conference meets.
