KENT CITY — The Hart Pirates girls track and field team turned in a strong performance Friday, placing fourth out of 20 teams at the Kent City Invitational.

Leading the way for Hart was Joselyn Flores, who captured the overall meet championship in the high jump. Shelbie Choponis added a runner-up finish in the discus, while Addison Hain placed third in the 100 meters.

Hain also contributed a sixth-place finish in the 400 meters. Other top individual medalists included Natalie Rosema, who placed eighth in the 800 meters; Ellie Gross, who took sixth in the 100 hurdles and seventh in the 300 hurdles; and Lauren Hopkins, who finished eighth in the pole vault.

Hart also found success in relay events, with three teams earning medals. The 4×200-meter relay team of Flores, Gross, Rosema and Hain placed fifth. The 4×800-meter relay team of Emery Velat, Bryn Riley, Alaina Schaner and Rosema took sixth. The 4×400-meter relay team of Flores, Rosema, Gross and Hain also finished sixth.

Hart varsity coach Calvin Ackley said the team continues to show progress against strong competition.
