SCOTTVILLE — Facing a field loaded with larger, highly competitive schools, the Pentwater Falcons rose to the occasion Friday at the Lake Michigan Carferry Invitational at Mason County Central’s Spartan Community Field.
Pentwater delivered a well-rounded performance, finishing with four place finishes, seven medals and seven personal records.
Logan Fatura led the way, earning a first-place finish in the discus with a throw of 134 feet, 2 inches. The performance also earned Fatura the meet’s Captain’s Hat honor.
The Falcons showed strength in the distance events. Bailey Case placed fourth in the 3,200 meters in 14:01.05 and also helped the 4×800 relay team to a fifth-place finish. Case teamed with Maggie Jorissen, Michelle Smith and Karina Olivarez to post a time of 13:27.49.
Chase McGuire-Vangills added a sixth-place finish in the 300 hurdles, clocking in at 45.24 against a competitive field.
Several Falcons recorded personal-best performances. Anthony Acosta ran 28.30 in the 200, Silas Jobbins threw 24-8.5 in the shot put, and Russell Keyser finished the 400 in 1:31.39. Tyler Zimmer posted a time of 50.88 in the 300 hurdles.
Maggie Jorissen recorded two personal bests, finishing the 800 in 3:53.39 and the 1,600 in 8:22.21. Emma Werkema-Grondsma added a personal record of 32.65 in the 200.
Pentwater coach Erika Fatura said the team continues to prove itself regardless of the level of competition.
“This group continues to prove that no matter the size of the meet or the competition, they belong,” Fatura said. “They compete with heart, support one another, and keep pushing for improvement every time they step on the track.”
The Falcons showed resilience and steady improvement throughout the invitational as they continue to build momentum this season.
