Motorcyclist critically injured in crash

NEWFIELD TOWNSHIP — A 50-year-old Leroy, Mich. man was airlifted by Aeromed from the scene of a motorcycle crash Wednesday, April 22, around 2 p.m. on East M 20 near 162nd Avenue, according to Sgt. Michael Cuevas of the Michigan State Police, Hart post.

The man, who was operating a Harley Davidson motorcycle, is in critical condition, said MSP Cadet Dante Richards with the Hart post.

“He was overtaking a pickup truck; appeared to lose control; wobbled for approximately 100-150 yards; and then was ejected from the bike, sustaining critical injuries,” said Sgt. Cuevas. “Between Life EMS and Michigan State Police troopers, life-saving measures were provided on scene, and the subject was able to be airlifted to Corewell Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids in critical condition.”

The man was not wearing a helmet and suffered a skull fracture, said the sergeant.

Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash, said Sgt. Cuevas.

M 20 in the vicinity of the crash scene was closed for about an hour and a half.
