HART — The Hart girls track and field team continued its run of dominance Tuesday afternoon, defeating Holton, Mason County Central and Hesperia in West Michigan Rivers Conference action.

The Pirates posted decisive scores across the board, beating Holton 104-22, MCC 84-49 and Hesperia 110-20 to remain undefeated in conference competition for a fifth consecutive season.

Coach Calvin Ackley said the team’s depth and consistency continue to drive its success.

Hart was led by multiple-event winners Ellie Gross and Emery Velat, who each captured four first-place finishes. Gross won the 100-meter hurdles, 300 hurdles and ran on the winning 4×100 and 4×400 relay teams. Velat was part of four victorious relays, including the 4×100, 4×200, 4×400 and 4×800.

Addison Hain added three wins for the Pirates, taking the 100-meter dash, 200 dash and contributing to the 4×200 relay victory. Natalie Rosema earned two first-place finishes in the 3,200 run and as part of the 4×200 relay.

Hart also received first-place performances from Lauren Hopkins (pole vault), Ashlyn Smith, Lilianna Camacho (4×100 relay), Joselyn Flores (4×200), Emma Miller and Alaina Schaner (4×400), and Luisa VanderZwaag, Bryn Riley and Martina Saenz (4×800).

A highlight of the meet came in the discus, where Shelbie Choponis not only won the event but set a new school record with a throw of 125 feet, 7.5 inches, breaking Shelley Kelly’s mark set in 1985.

Hart returns to action Friday at Kent City.
