HESPERIA — Residents who live near the Hesperia Dam on the White River should prepare to evacuate due to potentially life-threatening flooding Wednesday, April 15, according to the Village of Hesperia.
“Oceana County Emergency Management is sending out the following message: prepare to evacuate areas below the Hesperia Dam on the White River. Water levels continue to rise. Life threatening flooding is possible.”
Maple Island Road is closed at the White River in the village due to rising water levels, according to the Newaygo County Sheriff’s Office.
A flood warning is in effect in the area until early Saturday morning, April 18. More rain is forecasted for Wednesday evening, Thursday and Saturday.
Governor Gretchen Whitmer declared a state of emergency for several counties, including Oceana and Newaygo, as communities across the state deal with severe weather-related impacts from rising water levels, flooding, straight-line winds, and tornadoes.
