Varsity Track & Field: Pentwater earns 26 medals, 17 personal bests at MCE invite

CUSTER — The Pentwater Falcon varsity track and field team opened the season with a strong showing, earning 26 medals and recording 17 personal bests in its first meet of the year.

Competing with limited outdoor practice time, the Falcons delivered standout performances across multiple events. Several athletes were competing in their first high school meet.

Leading the way with first-place finishes were Logan Fatura in discus (128 feet, 5 inches) and the girls 4×200-meter relay team of Lila Merrill, Emma Werkema-Grondsma, Lexi Smith and Lauren Davis, which posted a time of 2:07.39.

Second-place finishes included Chase McGuire-Vangills in the 200-meter dash (25.47), Lauren Davis in both the 100-meter hurdles (18.85) and 300-meter hurdles (1:00.69), Bailey Case in the 800-meter run (3:16.21), and Lexi Smith in the high jump (4-6).

Fatura also placed third in the shot put (38-5) and 100-meter dash (11.99). McGuire-Vangills added a third-place finish with a personal-best time of 1:05.07. The boys 4×200 relay team of Anthony Acosta, Michael Smith, Russell Keyser and Jacobo Martin placed third (1:59.84), along with Case in the 1,600-meter run (6:54.06). The girls 4×100 relay team of Davis, Karina Olivarez, Smith and Werkema-Grondsma placed third (1:01.37), as did the girls 4×400 relay team of Case, Anaviolet Jeruzal, Maggie Jorissen and Michelle Smith (6:26.39).

Fourth-place finishes were recorded by McGuire-Vangills in the 100-meter dash (12.0, personal best) and Tyler Zimmer in the 300-meter hurdles (51.85, personal best).

Fifth-place finishes included Merrill in the long jump (13-3.5, personal best) and Michelle Smith in the 800-meter run (3:43.59).

Sixth-place finishers were Michael Smith in the long jump (14-8.5, personal best), Zimmer in the 800-meter run (2:47.79), and Maggie Jorissen in both the 1,600-meter run (8:32.59, personal best) and 800-meter run (4:14.04, personal best).

Additional personal bests were recorded by Rodney Grondsma (shot put, 23-4), Silas Jobbins (shot put, 21-8; 100-meter dash, 16.44), Xach Davis (discus, 49-8), Jacobo Martin (400-meter dash, 1:18.69), Anthony Acosta (200-meter dash, 29.04), Emma Werkema-Grondsma (discus, 53-3; 100-meter dash, 15.58), and Lila Merrill (200-meter dash, 33.35; 100-meter dash, 15.37).

Pentwater will compete next at the Scottville Optimist Meet on Friday at Mason County Central in Scottville.
