Letter to the Editor: Make a plan to vote

April 3, 2026

Dear Editor,

It is never too early for your readers to: Make A Plan.

If you are like many of us in this community you are, to coin a phrase…fed up! Fed up with rising prices at the grocery, fed up with the price of health insurance, fed up with the cost of fuel, fed up with rising utility bills…the list goes on, in short…fed up with struggling to live paycheck to paycheck…if you even have a paycheck!

This country has enough wealth for everyone to live a good and decent life…not just a small percentage of those at the very top of our society. We need something to change. We need policies to be written and enacted by our elected representatives that support and help all of us!  So…NOW is the time to act! Make A Plan to:

  1. If you are registered to vote, check your voter registration status to be sure your name has not been purged from the voter roles. You can do this online at the Michigan Voter Information Center.
  2. If you are not registered to vote — register NOW at: Michigan.gov/Vote or contact your local city or township office, ask for the clerk’s office.
  3. If you will be 18 years old (or you have an adult child who will be) by or on election day (midterm elections are Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026) you/they can register/preregister to vote.  Information can be found online at the Michigan Voter Information Center.

Then…if you have done all of the above: Make A Plan to VOTE…either in person or by mail:

  1. Find out where to vote in person on Election Day Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026.
  2. Decide when you will vote…In the morning, the afternoon, where will you mail your absentee ballot?
  3. Plan how you will get to your voting location. Will you drive yourself, hitch a ride with someone?
  4. If you are going to vote by mail/absentee (anyone can vote by mail, whether you are in town or not on election day), find out how to get a mail-in ballot online at the Michigan Voter Information Center.
  5. Make sure your mail-in ballot gets in the mail well before election day, or deposit it in a ballot box in your local area, or hand deliver your mail-in ballot to your county clerk’s office.

The bottom line: Make A Plan

And vote for a change!

Sincerely,

Linda Nelson

Pentwater
