GOLDEN TOWNSHIP — Two unoccupied seasonal homes on Silver Lake Road were destroyed by fire early Monday morning, March 30.
“We got called out to a structure fire at about 2:40 a.m., and upon arrival one house was completely gone, and (the fire) moved into the second house, and about half of it was on fire, which quickly spread into the other half,” said Hart Fire Chief Dwight Fuehring. “It must have been burning for a while before it got called in for a house to be gone that long.”
One of the houses had recently been remodeled, said Chief Fuehring. Both homes are a total loss. An outhouse was also destroyed in the fire.

Firefighters from Hart, Shelby-Benona, Pentwater, Ferry Township and Grant Township battled the blaze. Life EMS and the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
“It was a big spread, but we got a good knock-down on it.” The fire is being investigated to determine the cause.
Approximately 20,000 gallons of water were used to extinguish the fire. “We used the well at Station 2.”
The scene was cleared around 6:30 a.m., said the chief.
