BATTLE CREEK – With a draw against Tri-County a few days ago, the Shelby Tigers still remain undefeated now two games into their season. After going down 0-2 against a “very talented” Lakeview offense, according to coach Joe Gorton, the Tigers managed to find their stride in the last 20 minutes of the affair.

“I was excited to see our response to the first half, said Gorton. “The girls were able to find another gear, and keep getting after it.”

Kylee Hanson ignited the Tigers’ spark, scoring their first, with Kylie Brown scoring two more. This game marks Brown’s second consecutive game with two goals, an incredible feat at the high school level. Annie Stark put an exclamation point on Shelby’s comeback, notching the last of their goals from the top of the box.

Some other notable performances included Brixtyn Friedman, who tallied two assists, and Charlee Friedman who provided an assist of her own. Brylee Friedman “kept us in it early” with some great saves, according to Gorton, as the Tigers now improve to a 1-0-1 record.

“I’m happy were were able to see what it’s like to play that fast, and the results that that effort brought,” said Gorton.

The Tigers will travel to Grant high school on April 8 for their third game of the season.
