HOWARD CITY – On Monday, the Shelby Tigers pulled off a draw against the Tri-County Vikings, something they have not been able to do for a while.
“We have not had a ton of success against this program, 0-4 recently, and were hoping that the new season would bring new results,” said coach Joseph Gorton.
Annie Stark was the first to put the Tigers on the board, scoring early in the game to put her team on top. The other two goals for Shelby were scored by Kylie Brown, who was one away from a hat trick. Tri-County’s star, Savannah Thompson, who was a former honorable mention for the all-state team, was “on the attack all evening,” and scored two of the three goals to equalize the Tigers.
With Shelby goalie Brylee Friedman logging 9 saves, the Tigers managed to end it in a draw for their first game of the season.
“I thought our ball possession and passing was great for our first game with limited outdoor reps,” said Gorton. “I’m excited to see how we build from here.”
