Einhorn, MSU tree fruit physiologist, will discuss apple vulnerability to winter freeze and spring frost events. Jackie Peckins, MSU tree fruit integrator, will present information on pest management programs for tart cherries and discuss the Apple Decision Tool, which supports orchard management decisions.
Following lunch, invited speaker Kurt Wedegaerner of Utah State University will share insights on new technologies for precision management in tart cherry production. Wedegaerner will discuss practical approaches for using data to improve orchard management, profitability and fruit quality.
Afternoon sessions will feature updates on current pest and disease concerns from Dr. George Sundin, MSU tree fruit pathologist, and Dr. Julianna Wilson, MSU tree fruit entomologist. In addition, Dr. Chris Bardenhagen will present an overview of farm succession planning, including key questions growers should consider when planning for the future of their operations.
The meeting will conclude with an industry panel discussion focused on fruit quality and the market outlook for the 2026 season.
MDARD has awarded three Restricted Use Pesticide credits, and Certified Crop Adviser continuing education units have been requested for this program.
Early registration is $25 per person if completed on or before March 23. Late and on-site registration after March 23 will be $40 per person. Cancellations received on or after March 23 will incur a $25 cancellation fee.
