CUSTER — Walkerville defeated Mason County Eastern Wednesday in the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 4 District 110 semifinal. The Wildcats won 50-47.

“We fell behind early and then it was a hard fight to get back into our game,” said MCE Coach Jake Smith. “Walkerville had a good night shooting the ball and we had one of our worst nights shooting the ball all season and our turnovers were high.

“Brailyn Johnson had a strong game for us and Emma Whitaker played well also coming back from an ankle sprain.

“We lose Elena Hopkins to graduation this year. She spent four years in the program and was always a strong team player for us.

“It’s always tough to lose the last game of the year. Im proud of how hard this team worked throughout the year. They have a great opportunity to succeed next year as well. We will return nearly the whole team and they will work hard going into next season.”
