HESPERIA — The Oceana County Sheriff’s Office investigated an attempted fraud Friday, Feb. 13, on Michigan Avenue involving a missing cat.
“Someone was wanting money in reference to a missing feline,” said Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast.
“The pet owner posted information online after her cat went missing, so people could contact her in case her cat was found.
“She states that she got a call through an email from a subject who stated he did not have the cat but he knew where it was, and he was requesting that she pay him $40 for information on the cat’s whereabouts.” The suspect refused to give the cat owner his address or other information.
The woman was advised by the investigating deputy that it was a scam to not give the caller any money.
