HESPERIA — The Village of Hesperia’s boil water alert due to a failed monthly water test issued Friday evening, Feb. 13, prompted Hesperia Community Schools to close Monday, Feb. 16.
Hesperia Superintendent Bryan Mey issued a statement Sunday evening announcing the school closure:
“This decision was not made lightly. However, our number one priority is the safety of our staff and students, and at this time we do not have an adequate supply of bottled water, cold lunch items and hand sanitizer to remain open on Monday.”
The superintendent stated that school officials plan to open the campus Tuesday after necessary supplies have been obtained that safely allow the district to operate for the duration of the boil water alert.
“When we open on Tuesday, we will have bottled water for all staff and students, as well as adequate hand sanitizer and the ability to serve every student prepackaged breakfast and lunch.”
“We understand that this is a frustrating situation, and we appreciate your patience, grace and support as we navigate it together.”
“We are hoping that this should be resolved soon and apologize for the inconvenience,” states an announcement from village officials. Two consecutive negative tests are required before the water boil alert can be lifted.
Hesperia was under a boil water advisory for two weeks from July 21 to Aug. 4, 2025 when an unmarked water main was accidentally hit on the corner of M 120 and Cook Street during work on a $23.7 million water improvement project.
