NEWAYGO — The Newaygo Lions defeated the Shelby Tigers Wednesday 44-33 in non-conference play.
“This was another hard fought contest,” said Shelby Coach Rick Zoulek. “It was very physical at times. We took better care of the ball tonight only committing 6 turnovers to 9 for Newaygo.”
Rebounds were 25 for Shelby and 20 for Newaygo.
“We took 10 more shots than they did but we made 2 less. The bottom line is you have to take good shots and make shots. Leighton Belasco led us with 12 points and 6 rebounds. Eli Kelley had 6 points and 4 assists. Our team effort has been more consistent as of late. Hopefully keep it up and get more positive results going into districts.
