SHELBY — Some residents in the Village of Shelby will remain under a boil water advisory following a water line break this week.

The water line break at the corner of Cherry and Lesada streets occurred Tuesday, Feb. 3, impacting residents in the following areas: Cherry Street, Lesada Street, Runner Street, Hillcrest Drive, North and South Sunset Terrace, Orchard View Drive and Sixth Street east of State Street/Oceana Drive.

“At the earliest, the advisory will remain in place through Friday,” states an announcement from the village. “To ensure the water is safe, per state regulations, two consecutive water samples must come back negative. There is also a 24‑hour waiting period requirement before the first sample can be tested, followed by another 24‑hour waiting period before the second sample can be tested.”

“Frost movement in the ground” caused the water line break, village officials said. The break has been sealed, and the boil water advisory remains in effect as a safety precaution. “It will take a period of time to get the road fixed.”

Village residents can sign up for text alerts here.
